Crafts for the Uncrafty: Painted Mason Jars

I love me some Mason jars.  I especially love the vintage blue ones., but I only have two of them.  I have lots of clear ones around Clutterhome, though.

Today, while putting away dishes, I accidentally slammed a mason jar onto the counter too hard.  It didn’t shatter, but it did crack a little and I don’t think I can use it as a glass anymore.  What to do, what to do?

I remembered I saw these really cute painted Mason jars over at Curbly.

Now, I don’t have any extra flowers laying around so I didn’t make flower pots.   But, I do seem to have an excess of kitchen . . . stuff.  There’s a reason we call it Clutterhome.  I’d love to be one of those people with a tidy kitchen, but we’re too busy keepin’ it real and all that.

There’s a pretty easy-to-follow tutorial for spray painting Mason jars over at 100 Layer Cake.

I just took a couple jars outside and gave them a coat of white and yellow paint.  Easy, peasy.  And there you have it, folks.

I even have a happy Kool-Aid spoon added in to keep everything nice and cheery.  Instant broken-Mason-jar-turned-kitchen-storage.  Do y’all have any tips for reducing kitchen clutter or for repurposing Mason jars?  If so, please share them in the comments section.  I’d LOVE to hear them!

  7. :) Love mason jars! I’m obsessed too! I have them EVERYWHERE! I use them in the kids’ playroom to hold their paintbrushes, I have vintage ones on my mantle in the family room, I use them on my desk to hold pencils, pens, and even buttons near the sewing machine! THEY ROCK! A few are painted and once in a blue moon I’ll use those as vases. Some are tinted to look like the vintage blue ones, and I have a few real green and blue tinted ones as decor. Wonderful post! :)
