Lazy Christmas Tree Bread

I kid you not.  I made this from start to finish in less than 30 minutes (including dishes!) while my newborn napped.  And I can’t even cook.

While cruising Pinterest, I was seeing several recipes for the same treat that I’d never heard of.  This Christmas Tree Bread seemed like it was popping up everywhere.  And my mouth was watering!

Here is  the original link that caught my eye and inspired my 30 minute, 5 ingredient, Lazy Christmas Tree Bread.  I’m going to give the original version a try when my baby is a little older and I have more time on my hands.  For now– here are the ingredients for my lazy dough:

Yep!  That’s it!  3 cups of Bisquick and 1 cup of milk.  I used soy because I’m lactose intolerant, and the heart healthy Bisquick because that’s what I had.  You can use any kind of baking mix and any kind of milk and it should work just fine!

Mix it up and dump out your blob onto a floured surface.  I forgot to flour my surface and it was a sticky mess.  Eh, live and learn.

Flour your hands and pat it out. Or roll it with a pin.  Whatever floats your boat!  I’m a flourer-patter because it’s less dishes, and in this house less dishes equal a happy Clutterholic.  This shape is a little shorter and a little wider than a cookie sheet, and about as deep as my middle finger nail.  If I knew technical baking terms, I’d use them.  This works for me!  :)

Here is where my mom-brain failed me and I forgot to photograph a step.  Pretend there’s a picture here of me slathering butter (or the fake stuff in the big tub) all over it and topping it with cinnamon sugar.  YUMMO.

Then, fold it in half with all of that buttery, sugary goodness inside.  I transfered it to my cookie sheet here.  I always line cookie sheets with Pam sprayed foil because I’m too lazy to do dishes and I always have foil.  You might have to do some smushing and stretching to make it look like a tree.  That’s ok!
Make some slices on the side of your tree and twist each section.  It doesn’t have to be perfect.  My dough was a little sticky, so I couldn’t twist each section twice  but that was what I was going for.

It doesn’t have to be perfect or pretty!  It will puff up in the oven.

Bake at 450 degrees for 8-12 minutes (I went with 11 and it looked like this).    Here is where you can get creative with the decorations!  I decided to microwave a can of Pillsbury white frosting that I had in the cabinet and drizzle it all over.  I had some red sprinkles so I dropped those puppies on top, too!  And . . . ta-da!  30 minute, 5 ingredient, Lazy Christmas Tree Bread.

My newborn literally woke up as I was finishing this post.  It was meant to be.  Time for some snuggles then a snack!  If you were counting, I actually had 6 ingredients since I threw sprinkles on at the last minute.  I’m still calling it 5 ingredient because I feel like it.  :)What are your favorite Christmas morning breakfasts and traditions?  Leave a comment and let us know!
